The theme for World Maritime Day, 2017, connecting ships, ports, and people, recognizes the profound integration of these three key elements in marine activities. One of the fundamental requirements of all three elements is safety. The IMO has in place extensive strategies to be implemented by member nations for complete security of ships, ports, and the people associated. Making the seas safe for seafarers is one of the primary goals of sustainable development all across the world. India is an active participant in this endeavor and has implemented several measures to assiduously protect its coasts and oceanic boundaries. A discussion with Capt. L. K. Panda, former Nautical Advisor to the Government of India, gives us an insight into the same. #worldmaritimeday #safeseassafeshores #susta...
To help celebrate World Maritime Day, IMO invited some inquisitive young students from schools in London to visit IMO headquarters and find out for themselves how everyday things get transported around the world, how much it costs, and what it’s like to work on a ship. After a series of presentations, games and activities, we asked them what they’d learnt - and, as our latest video release reveals, the answers aren’t always what you might expect!
World Maritime Day theme for 2013 is: Sustainable Development: IMO's contribution beyond Rio+20. The theme was chosen in order to focus IMO's efforts during 2013 on carrying out the commitments made at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development, better known as Rio+20, held in June 2012 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
